Head of Engineering

About the role

As Head of Engineering within DEPT®'s Experience & Engineering team, you will set the strategic direction for a growing engineering organization, drive AI‑enabled development practices, and nurture the next generation of technical leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Leadership of Leaders: coach and mentor Team Leads and Senior Engineers, own their career paths.
• AI Change Management: define roadmap for integrating AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and Agentic Workflows into the engineering lifecycle.
• Operational Excellence: own resource planning, budget monitoring and utilization to ensure a profitable, scalable organization.
• Strategic Partnering: collaborate with Directors and VPs to shape DEPT®’s technology vision in the DACH region and act as a technical sparring partner for key accounts.
• Cultural Stewardship: foster an inclusive, high‑performance culture and introduce modern rituals for knowledge sharing and innovation.

Required profile

• Proven people manager with experience leading managers or large engineering departments.
• Passionate change agent with a clear vision for AI‑driven software development.
• Strong frontend background to validate architecture and mentor engineers.
• Business acumen to translate agency KPIs into actionable results.
• Excellent communicator in German and English, able to present complex technical topics.
