Intern in Sorbent Structures (80-100%)

About the role

Climeworks is looking for an intern in sorbent structures, working 80-100% of the time on the evaluation and development of sorbent materials for direct air capture. The internship is a six-month fixed-term position in Zurich, with a hybrid setup of at least three days per week onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and develop sorbent structures for direct air capture.
• Test novel materials in an integrated team for CO2 adsorption behaviour, stability and structural integrity.
• Develop sample prototypes of novel materials.
• Work independently on packages evaluating future technologies, including modelling or laboratory work depending on your background.
• Validate, troubleshoot and document your work so it can be communicated effectively across larger projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or currently working towards a master's degree in mechanical, process, chemical engineering, materials science or a similar field.
• Availability for a six-month internship, preferably starting in January 2026 or shortly after.
• Fluent English; German or other languages are beneficial but not required.
• Eager to learn, reliable, motivated, solution-oriented, concise and structured.

Required skills

• Hands-on lab or workshop experience, with any of: BET, mercury porosimetry, TGA, tensile/compression testing, FEM, breakthrough testing, DVS, mass transfer modelling or prototyping.
• Familiarity with CO2 capture is beneficial but not required.

What we offer

• CHF 2,000 per month during BSc and MSc, rising to CHF 2,500 per month after completing an MSc.
