Java Software Engineer (Kafka) – Zurich

About the role

We are looking for a Java Software Engineer to join our backend team in Zurich. You will work on a live RegTech platform that helps banks prevent financial crime, delivering new features and improving existing services for thousands of clients worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy end‑to‑end backend features using Java.
• Collaborate closely with product managers and QA engineers to deliver high‑quality functionality.
• Participate in code reviews and help raise the engineering standards across the team.
• Maintain and evolve both legacy codebases and newer micro‑services.
• Work with event‑driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Utilise container technologies as part of the development workflow.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend Java development experience in a product or platform environment.
• Strong understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with event‑driven architectures or messaging systems (Kafka or similar).
• Comfortable using containerisation tools in daily work.
• Commitment to writing clean, testable and maintainable code.
