Junior Electrical Safety Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Electrical Safety Engineer to join CERN’s General Safety and Equipment Integrity team within the HSE Department. You will help modernise CERN’s electrical safety rules, documentation and conformity procedures while supporting technical departments across the laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Provide electrical safety support to CERN technical departments and contribute to safety awareness activities.
• Review existing electrical safety documents, identify gaps and outdated content.
• Draft, update and consolidate instructions, procedures and conformity requirements in line with the latest IEC/EN standards and Host State regulations.
• Develop standardised document structures, templates and terminology, ensuring traceability and revision control.
• Assist in safety risk assessments, equipment integrity checks, audits and technical reviews.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering, particularly low‑voltage installations and safety fundamentals.
• Experience drafting or reviewing technical documentation, standards or procedures in an academic, industrial or project environment.
• Familiarity with international or national electrical standards (e.g., IEC, EN) and their interpretation.
• Ability to work both independently and within an international, multidisciplinary team.
• Fluent in English or French, with a willingness to learn the other language.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, with up to two years of professional experience.
