Junior Legal Counsel – Energy Trading

About the role

Emad Energy SA, a fast‑growing player in global oil and petroleum product trading, is seeking a motivated Junior Legal Counsel to support its trading operations. You will work closely with traders, finance, operators and senior management to ensure contracts and transactions comply with international regulations and internal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts such as Sale & Purchase Agreements, Charter Parties, Trade Finance documents, MOUs and NDAs.
• Monitor regulatory developments in the energy sector and international sanctions.
• Update internal company policies and support KYC, compliance and onboarding processes.
• Assist in managing disputes related to quantity, quality, demurrage claims and insurance matters.
• Conduct legal research to support strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (MLaw) from a top‑tier university, preferably with a focus on International Trade or Maritime Law.
• 1–3 years of experience in a legal department of a trading house, shipping company or commodities‑focused law firm.
• Fluent written and spoken English; French or additional languages are a plus.
• Independent, self‑guided and comfortable working in a horizontal, collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Incoterms 2020.
• Knowledge of shipping law and trade finance instruments.
• Familiarity with Letters of Credit.
