Legal Counsel, Trade Support

About the role

The Trade Support lawyer will be based in Geneva and support LDC’s EMEA region, providing legal advice to subsidiaries across commodities platforms, international shipping and commercial activities. The role requires strong communication, commercial mindset and the ability to manage multiple matters independently.

Key responsibilities

• Provide business‑oriented legal advice to internal clients (trading, freight, credit risk, management) on physical commodity trading, both contentious and non‑contentious.
• Support day‑to‑day trading and shipping operations, including dispute resolution and trade development activities.
• Structure, draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements related to trading and shipping.
• Manage arbitration and litigation matters throughout the EMEA region.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to practice law (common‑law jurisdiction preferred).
• Minimum 6 years post‑qualification experience, ideally with both private‑practice and in‑house exposure.
• Experience in agricultural, food or commodity trading environments is an asset.
• Strong communication skills, collaborative approach and high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Knowledge of industry‑specific contracts such as GAFTA, FOSFA, SAL/RSA.
• Familiarity with dry‑shipping dispute mechanisms (LMAA, SIAC).
• Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken.
