Legal Officer – Copyright Law Division

About the role

The Legal Officer will support WIPO Member States in aligning national copyright legislation with international treaty obligations. Based in Geneva, the incumbent will work within the Copyright Law Division to provide legal and policy assistance, conduct research, and develop reference tools.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyse national copyright laws and draft legislation for consistency with WIPO treaties.
• Conduct research on legislative and policy needs of countries and regional groups.
• Develop model provisions, templates, checklists and other reference materials under the guidance of the Legal Counsellor.
• Monitor policy developments and undertake legal research on selected copyright topics.
• Maintain relationships with national copyright offices, Member State representatives and other stakeholders.
• Prepare documents and logistical arrangements for conferences, seminars and workshops organized by the Division.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in law, preferably with a focus on intellectual property or copyright.
• Experience in legislative assistance, treaty implementation or related legal advisory work.
• Strong analytical and research abilities.
• Excellent written communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Legal research and drafting.
• Knowledge of international copyright and related rights treaties.
• Ability to develop legal reference materials and model provisions.
