Mechanical Engineer – Precision Equipment Design

About the role
Oratek, an engineering consulting firm in Ecublens, Switzerland, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop small‑scale benchtop machines and precision equipment for high‑finish industries such as watchmaking, medical and scientific instruments. The role involves full‑system architecture, from frame and kinematics to integration of actuators, sensors and electronics.
Key responsibilities
- Design overall architecture, frame, kinematics and integration of mechanical, electrical and software components for tabletop systems.
- Create and validate prototypes of precision mechanical assemblies and components.
- Produce manufacturing‑ready 2‑D drawings with full tolerancing (ISO/GD&T) for fine machining and plastic injection molding.
- Select materials, surface treatments and finishes suitable for high‑end applications.
- Collaborate with electronics, firmware, software and system engineers to define technical requirements.
- Coordinate with machining and injection‑molding partners, validate first articles and production batches.
- Prepare technical documentation including drawings, BOMs and assembly instructions.
Required profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Microtechnology or equivalent CFC with substantial experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in precision mechanical design for high‑finish sectors.
- Hands‑on experience with fine machining and plastic injection molding processes.
- Strong attention to detail and solution‑oriented mindset.
- Fluent French; English is a plus.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Fusion 360 or comparable CAD tools.
- Expertise in ISO/GD&T tolerancing.
- Knowledge of fine machining and plastic injection molding design.
- Ability to specify materials, surface treatments and finishes.
- Experience creating manufacturing drawings, BOMs and assembly documentation.
