Mechanical Engineer – Precision Hardware

About the role

SwissWiper, a Swiss precision hardware company building glass protection systems, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer based in Zurich. The role works in a hybrid setting, part-time or full-time, and starts as soon as possible. You will work directly with the CPO to turn a working design into a product that is proven, measured and ready for production. It is a position in a small founding team with a real say in the product from an early stage.

Key responsibilities

• Select materials for metal and elastomer components
• Run static and fatigue analysis to define breaking points, safety margins and product lifetime
• Calculate loads and weight distribution across rails, clamps and mounting points
• Refine the geared movement and bearings for smooth, precise motion
• Define measurements, tolerances and fits across all moving parts
• Build and run cycle tests to validate lifetime and blade replacement intervals, document results and work with suppliers on design for manufacturing

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Proven experience taking physical products from concept to series production
• Hands-on approach to prototyping, testing and data analysis
• Fluent English required; German, French or Italian is an advantage
• Background in precision mechanics such as watchmaking, or in architectural, glass or sanitary hardware, is a strong plus

• SolidWorks for parts, assemblies and technical drawings
• SolidWorks Simulation for static, fatigue and contact analysis
• Tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T to ISO GPS standards
• Material knowledge across aluminium, stainless steel and elastomers
• DFM/DFA principles and direct supplier collaboration
