Nautical Efficiency Manager – Basel

About the role

The Nautical Efficiency Manager will report to the Director of Nautical Operations and lead operational and environmental efficiency across Viking’s river fleet of more than 70 vessels. Based in Basel, the role combines data‑driven analysis with practical guidance for captains, engineers and shoreside teams, while supporting the company’s ESG commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Own fleet efficiency reporting, including daily/weekly dashboards, route benchmarks, annual fuel budget tracking and variance analysis.
• Monitor fuel calculations, consumption and pricing to identify savings and drive measurable efficiency improvements.
• Maintain the Efficiency Manual and lead fuel and energy reduction initiatives without compromising safety or guest comfort.
• Prepare Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions data for ESG reporting, ensuring completeness and audit readiness.
• Manage environmental certifications (e.g., Green Award, ISO 14001) and support related audits and regulatory monitoring.
• Lead fleet monitoring systems, automation, vendor relationships and act as the central contact between crews, technical teams and corporate reporting.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in operational performance, efficiency, sustainability or environmental reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to turn data into practical actions.
• Good understanding of energy management, emissions reporting, ISO 14001 and continuous‑improvement principles.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to influence crews, technical teams and corporate functions.
