Nautical Instructor Engineer – River Cruise

About the role

The Nautical Instructor Engineer delivers engineering training and assessments for Engineers and Second Engineers on Viking’s inland passenger vessels. Reporting to the Nautical Instructor Team Leader, the role is field‑based with up to 80% travel across Europe and focuses on inland navigation systems.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver classroom and onboard practical training covering main engines, generators, propulsion, steering, electrical distribution and hybrid/battery‑electric systems.
• Provide training on auxiliary and hotel technical systems such as HVAC, fresh water production, wastewater treatment, fuel bunkering, bilge and ballast management.
• Conduct standardized theoretical and practical assessments, maintain assessment criteria and performance reports.
• Develop and update training materials, digital e‑learning content and translate technical documentation into practical learning modules.
• Coordinate on‑demand trainers, ensure quality standards, and collaborate with Nautical Operations and technical departments on candidate development.

Required profile

• Qualified engineer on inland passenger vessels with several years of engine‑room experience on river cruise ships.
• Strong training, coaching and assessment abilities within a technical or nautical environment.
• Completed technical education in marine, mechanical or electrical engineering, preferably with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Fluent in German and English; French is an asset.
• Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time.
