Nautical Sailor Trainer – River Operations

About the role

The Nautical Sailor Trainer is responsible for delivering practical sailor and safety training across Viking's river fleet. Reporting to the Nautical Instructor Team Leader, the role ensures consistent assessment standards and supports trainees from entry level through to the Boatman exam.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical sailor training on mooring operations, deck handling, and vessel maintenance in line with Viking standards.
• Train guest‑facing operations such as gangway setup, luggage handling, and sundeck preparation.
• Mentor Sailors and Sailors Light, creating a confident learning environment.
• Assess trainee performance, provide feedback, and manage progress through the Learning Management System.
• Coordinate training schedules with Nautical Operations, Captains, HR and external examination bodies.
• Develop and maintain training materials, equipment and tools to align with safety standards.

Required profile

• Completed nautical education with a valid Sailor's Book (Blue Book) for inland navigation.
• Minimum three years experience in inland navigation as Second Officer, Boatman or similar role.
• Fluent in English; additional German, Dutch or French language skills are an asset.
• Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time across Europe.

Required skills

• Operation of deck equipment, mooring systems, cranes and anchors.
• Proficiency with nautical knots and basic engine‑room maintenance.
• Use of IT tools as an end‑user, including Microsoft 365.
