Ocean Freight Customer Service Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a customer‑focused Ocean Freight Customer Service Specialist to act as the primary point of contact for our global freight customers. You will manage ocean freight bookings, allocation requests and billing support while ensuring high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main contact for inquiries on bookings, allocations, contract terms and shipment updates.
• Coordinate capacity requirements with procurement and monitor allocation utilization.
• Provide accurate shipment status, schedule changes and allocation availability.
• Maintain customer records and case documentation in CRM systems.
• Handle disputes related to rates, surcharges, contracts and service issues, and ensure timely resolution.
• Review and prepare invoices, validating billing accuracy and commercial compliance.
• Collaborate with carriers, operations, procurement and finance to resolve issues.
• Track and close cases within SLA targets and contribute to reporting and process improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in ocean freight, freight forwarding or logistics customer service.
• Native‑level German and fluent English communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, International Trade or related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of ocean freight operations, shipping documentation, carrier tariffs and Incoterms.
• Ability to read and interpret freight contracts, rate sheets and customer agreements.

Required skills

• Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or Zendesk.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Strong commercial understanding of ocean freight billing and invoice validation.
