About the role

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) seeks a Senior Physician in Proton Radiation Therapy, combined with a 20 % appointment as Professor ad personam at the University of Zurich. The position starts immediately and is permanent, offering the opportunity to lead the Center for Proton Therapy within 1–2 years.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical care for patients undergoing proton and particle therapy, including pediatric oncology.
• Lead and develop the Center for Proton Therapy, overseeing clinical operations and research programs.
• Conduct high‑precision radiation therapy and advance clinical protocols.
• Secure and manage competitive third‑party research funding as principal investigator.
• Teach medical students and mentor early‑career researchers.
• Strengthen collaborations between PSI, the University of Zurich, and University Hospital Zurich.

Required profile

• Specialist qualification in radiation oncology or equivalent.
• Comprehensive clinical experience across radiation oncology, including pediatric cases.
• Habilitation or equivalent academic qualification.
• Strong publication record in relevant scientific journals.
• Proven track record in leading research projects and obtaining external funding.
• Enthusiasm for teaching and academic mentorship.
• German language skills at B2 level (or ability to acquire within a reasonable period).
