R&D Engineer – Low Voltage UPS Development

About the role

As an R&D Engineer at ABB you will lead technical validation and customization of OEM low‑voltage Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and related accessories. You will work in a hybrid model from the Quartino site, collaborating with internal teams and external test partners to ensure compliance with IEC and UL standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead validation and customization of single‑phase and three‑phase low‑voltage UPS, batteries and accessories.
• Manage test partners (UL, Intertek, Dekra, Eurofins, etc.) to plan and execute compliance test programs.
• Maintain product specifications and support the Product Manager in business case development.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for qualification and field issues.
• Monitor emerging technologies and collaborate with ABB research centres to identify new UPS solutions.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least two years of relevant experience.
• Hands‑on experience with power electronic systems and laboratory measurement equipment.
• Knowledge of IEC and UL product regulations and standards.
• Experience working with external laboratories and certification bodies.
• Familiarity with Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs), Bills of Materials (BOMs) and documentation systems.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
