R&D Senior Engineer

About the role

ABB is looking for an experienced R&D Senior Engineer to lead technical validation and customization of OEM low‑voltage Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and related accessories. Based in Quartino, Switzerland, you will work in a hybrid model supporting ABB’s critical power solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical validation and customization of single‑phase and three‑phase low‑voltage UPS, batteries and accessories.
• Manage test partners (UL, Intertek, Dekra, Eurofins, etc.) to plan and execute compliance test programs according to IEC and UL standards.
• Maintain product specifications and assist the Product Manager in building business cases for new developments.
• Drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for issues identified during qualification testing or at customer sites.
• Monitor state‑of‑the‑art technologies and collaborate with ABB research centres to identify new UPS technologies.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least five years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience with power electronic systems and laboratory measurement equipment.
• Familiarity with product regulations, IEC and UL standards, and working with external certification bodies.
• Knowledge of engineering change notifications (ECNs), bills of materials (BOMs) and documentation systems.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
