Research and Development Engineering Manager

About the role

Lead and develop a team of mechanical and product development engineers within an internationally active Swiss medical technology company. The role combines strong mechanical engineering expertise with people leadership to deliver innovative medical devices and surgical instruments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and further develop an experienced team of mechanical and product development engineers.
• Provide technical guidance in mechanical design, product development and engineering decisions.
• Ensure high standards of technical documentation, design controls and regulatory compliance (EU MDR, FDA).
• Improve engineering processes, development methods and digital workflows.
• Collaborate closely with senior R&D leadership and cross‑functional teams such as Quality, Regulatory Affairs and Manufacturing.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology or a comparable discipline.
• Several years of hands‑on experience in mechanical medical device development, preferably in orthopaedic implants, trauma, joint reconstruction, dental implants or surgical instruments.
• Proven experience in leading, coaching and developing technical teams.
• Excellent English communication skills; German is an advantage.
