Senior Director, Country & Site Operations (CSO) – Europe

About the role

The Senior Director, Country & Site Operations (CSO) for European markets leads the delivery and performance of country and site operations supporting Biogen clinical trials across all phases and therapeutic areas. Reporting to global CSO leadership, you will guide regional clinical country leaders and Clinical Country & Site Leads (CCSLs) to ensure high‑quality site performance and sponsor oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Accountable for CSO country performance across assigned European markets, including governance, risk management and issue resolution.
• Lead and develop directors, associate directors and senior managers to ensure consistent execution and sustainable workloads.
• Maintain strong investigator and site relationships, driving site intelligence to inform site selection and portfolio decisions.
• Oversee monitoring delivery (CRAs, CMLs) across FTE and FSP models, ensuring collaboration with CCSLs and country leaders.
• Partner with CRO and FSP providers to enhance operational excellence and site performance.
• Drive CSO initiatives and operating‑model changes with global applicability.
• Own budget and headcount planning for the European organization and contribute to broader workforce planning.
• Collaborate with other EU CSO leaders to ensure quality and consistency across functions.

Required profile

• University degree required; advanced or graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum 15 + years of experience in clinical operations, site management or related fields.
• Proven leadership of large, matrixed teams including directors and senior managers.
• Extensive experience managing clinical trials across European markets.
