Senior ML / Software Engineer (Technical Lead)

About the role

A highly ambitious early-stage Industrial AI startup in Zurich is looking for a Senior ML / Software Engineer to act as Technical Lead. Recruited on behalf of the startup by a partner firm, the role sits at heads level alongside the Head of Engineering and shapes how the engineering team and its infrastructure scale through the next funding rounds.

Key responsibilities

• Build the engineering team and its scalable infrastructure with the founding engineers, setting standards that will last as the company grows.
• Set the technical direction of the platform, drawing on hands-on experience of scaling real systems.
• Build the platform that brings the research team's foundation world model into production, deployed in harsh, real-world industrial environments.
• Work closely with research on how cutting-edge models are best shaped for applied use.
• Put processes in place so engineering, already the largest team, scales effectively, and grow and lead the team over time.

Required profile

• Very strong fundamentals in machine learning and deep learning, for example from a top research lab, big tech or papers at top conferences.
• Experience building and scaling a high-traffic product under heavy load, with a deep understanding of the infrastructure behind it.
• Nice to have: time-series experience (quant or prop trading backgrounds are very welcome).
• Nice to have: Python backend experience.
• Nice to have: experience leading a team, or a strong appetite for ownership.
