Senior Power Electronics Engineer – Traction Projects

About the role

ABB is looking for a senior engineer to lead the design and integration of traction power electronics and energy storage systems for rail vehicles. You will work with global teams across engineering, production, R&D and project management to deliver high‑quality, innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design traction power converters and energy storage systems (ESS) and ensure seamless vehicle integration, while leading type and qualification testing.
• Take technical responsibility for project work packages, develop deep expertise, and provide guidance to peers.
• Plan and coordinate project activities, manage stakeholders and communicate solutions with a focus on quality, schedule and deliverables.
• Contribute to product family standardisation and drive continuous improvement of traction converter‑ESS integration.

Required profile

• Qualified Electrical Engineer with 5+ years of power‑electronics experience on customer projects; traction converter and ESS experience is a plus.
• Proactive problem‑solver who takes ownership of tasks and delivers within an inclusive team.
• Curious learner eager to expand technical expertise, improve processes and share knowledge.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); conversational German is a strong advantage.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to support project sites.
