Senior Scientist in Flow Cytometry

About the role

Roche's 360 Labs chapter, part of the Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SPO) function in its Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organisation, is seeking an experienced, collaborative and customer-centric senior scientist for its Flow Cytometry Technology Platform. The role supports drug discovery projects across pRED's therapeutic areas and contributes to the development and operation of the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Work with research teams across pRED's therapeutic areas to advance drug discovery projects through expert flow cytometry support, including high-parameter panel design (up to 40+ parameters), advanced data analysis and interpretation, and advice on how flow cytometry and functional assays fit into pharma R&D.
• Coordinate and run daily quality control on instruments, monitor results for accuracy, and carry out regular maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Deliver multi-tiered training and user onboarding so analysts can operate independently, and provide high-speed cell sorting for complex samples such as primary tissues and organoids.
• Stay current with the latest flow cytometry literature and share findings internally and at scientific conferences where appropriate.

Required profile

• PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field, with at least 3-5 years of experience in a flow cytometry-intensive or shared-resource laboratory.
• Experience in multidisciplinary, multi-omic projects combining flow cytometry with genomics, proteomics or imaging is highly desirable.
• Fluent English and excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of flow cytometry, including assay development and validation, multicolour spectral panel design and imaging flow cytometry.
• High-dimensional bioinformatic pipelines and semi-automated analysis (e.g. FlowSOM, UMAP).
• Extensive hands-on experience with cell sorting.
