Senior/Principal Software Engineer – Automation Core (Lab Automation)

About the role

Roche is looking for a Senior/Principal Software Engineer to join the Automation Core team within the Engineering – Lab Automation group. The role focuses on building and evolving core automation control and data frameworks that enable scientists in research labs to run reliable, interconnected experiments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deploy robust, cross‑vendor frameworks for integrating automated systems and workcells in laboratory environments.
• Collaborate directly with scientists, product managers and end‑users to translate complex laboratory needs into technical solutions.
• Apply best practices in distributed systems and data engineering across the technology stack.
• Own significant components of the automation framework and provide technical guidance to the team.
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for core automation control and data frameworks, aligning with drug discovery objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a backend, data or product engineer.
• Strong passion for software engineering and continuous engagement with end‑users.
