Sri Lanka Accountability Project Intern

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a motivated intern to support the Sri Lanka Accountability Project in Geneva. The six‑month, full‑time placement offers hands‑on experience with UN human‑rights work, data management and research.

Key responsibilities

• Review, catalogue and analyse information relevant to the project’s mandate, creating structured datasets.
• Maintain and update internal repositories of reports, documentation and research material on human‑rights violations in Sri Lanka.
• Assist in producing statistical outputs and visualisations from collected data.
• Support the development and improvement of information‑management systems.
• Conduct desk‑based research on national and international accountability frameworks, especially enforced disappearances.
• Collect and synthesize best‑practice information from UN entities, NGOs and academic sources.
• Research and analyse open‑source material on human‑rights violations and core international crimes.
• Help plan, organise and coordinate meetings, events and related activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Current university student with a strong interest in United Nations work and human‑rights issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent attention to detail and communication abilities.
• Willingness to indicate current matriculation status and availability in the application.
