System Engineer – Secure Fleet Platform

About the role

We are seeking a System Engineer to join Open Systems’ Secure Fleet Platform team, responsible for the secure operational foundations of a managed security platform serving roughly 10,000 production systems. The role focuses on redesigning management‑access architecture and modernising the connectivity layer to ensure reliable, secure, and automated fleet operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate next‑generation secure management‑access architecture, including least‑privilege SSH gateways, authentication, authorisation and audit controls.
• Redesign and engineer resilient, scalable connectivity patterns for a 10,000‑system fleet, covering remote management, configuration delivery and software lifecycle.
• Develop automation, observability and tooling to make fleet‑wide changes safe, repeatable and recoverable, and operate core platform services such as Nginx, Redis and time‑synchronisation.

Required profile

• Completed relevant technical training or degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong confidence working with Linux systems and a desire to deepen platform‑engineering, networking and security expertise.
• Ability to take end‑to‑end ownership of services, ask clear questions, document work and operate safely in production environments.

Required skills

• Linux system administration (services, permissions, processes, filesystems).
• Networking fundamentals – TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, SSH, routing and troubleshooting.
• Secure access concepts – authentication, authorisation, privileged access, VPN or remote‑access services.
• Scripting or programming in Python, Go, Bash or Perl.
• Version control and delivery practices – Git, code review, CI/CD, infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Experience with agentic AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or Cursor.
