Technical Adviser – UNFC Implementation

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) seeks a Technical Adviser to support the further development and implementation of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) across the UNECE region. This fixed‑term, full‑time position is based in Geneva and will run for an initial five‑month period.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the development and operationalisation of UNFC for minerals, critical raw materials and anthropogenic resources.
• Produce global, regional, national and sectoral technical policy analyses in line with ECOSOC decisions.
• Organise and facilitate technical meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences with UN Member States, agencies, industry and civil‑society stakeholders.
• Develop comprehensive technical documentation, publications and case studies related to UNFC and UNRMS.
• Plan and manage the annual work programme, including milestones, assignment allocation, contracts and performance evaluation.
• Design and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess programme outcomes.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in natural resources, geology, environmental science, economics or a related field.
• Significant experience in resource classification, policy analysis or technical advisory roles within an international or multilateral organisation.
• Proven ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder processes and deliver high‑quality technical outputs.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the UNFC framework and its application.
• Familiarity with the UNRMS methodology.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing capabilities.
