UAV Battery Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is seeking a UAV Battery Engineer to lead the design, development, and production of energy‑storage systems for its autonomous defense drones. You will own the full battery architecture, from cell selection through to safe, reliable pack delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and qualify battery cell suppliers, define pack configurations and cell architecture.
• Design and implement battery safety and thermal‑management strategies, conduct DFMEA and ensure compliance with UN38.3 and UL standards.
• Develop Battery Management System (BMS) hardware and algorithms, including State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH) estimation, cell balancing and protection logic.
• Perform hands‑on testing using cyclers and thermal chambers, create validation plans for abuse scenarios, and analyse BMS log data.
• Manage supplier relationships, technical specifications, quality control and roadmap alignment.
• Collaborate with mechanical design, firmware, and external manufacturing partners to integrate battery solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience taking battery systems from concept to production in high‑performance robotics, aerospace or UAV applications.
• Hands‑on expertise with battery cells, BMS hardware and thermal testing.
