Assembly & Test Engineer - Cryogenic Probe Stations

About the role

A deep-tech startup and University of Basel spin-off develops cryogenic probe stations for characterizing quantum and semiconductor devices at millikelvin temperatures. It is looking for a hands-on engineer or experimental physicist to assemble, integrate, test and validate these probe stations.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble and integrate precision mechanical, electrical and optical components into complete cryogenic probe stations.
• Perform functional tests, validate system performance and document test results.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues during assembly and testing.
• Prepare and maintain assembly instructions, test procedures and technical documentation.
• Work with R&D to improve system reliability, manufacturability and assembly processes.
• Support installations and commissioning at customer sites when needed.

Required profile

• Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, physics or a related field, preferably at Master's level.
• Several years of hands-on experience assembling, integrating and testing complex technical systems.
• Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams and work with precision mechanical, electrical and optical components.
• Hands-on experience with cryogenic systems and vacuum technology.
• Independent, structured and quality-focused, with strong analytical and documentation skills.
• Good English; German is an advantage. Occasional travel for customer installations is required.

• Basic Python programming
• Experience with 3D CAD software is an advantage
