Assistant Professor of History

About the role

Franklin Switzerland seeks a full‑time Assistant Professor of History to begin in August 2027. The position is part of a small, international liberal‑arts community that integrates classroom learning with faculty‑led academic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Teach a typical load of six courses per year (including first‑year seminars, writing‑intensive classes and advanced seminars) and a course with an integrated Academic Travel component.
• Design and lead faculty‑directed travel experiences that connect historical study with on‑site engagement in relevant locations.
• Maintain an active research agenda, publish scholarly work, and integrate research into teaching.
• Advise and mentor students, participate in faculty governance, committees and curriculum development.

Required profile

• PhD in History completed by the start date.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and ability to teach across multiple periods and regions.
• Record of scholarly achievement appropriate to an early‑career researcher and a clear research agenda.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of a Swiss national language is an asset.
• Experience in a U.S.-style residential liberal‑arts setting and enthusiasm for experiential learning.
