Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) – History of Art & Architectural Culture

About the role

ETH Zurich’s Department of Architecture invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor (or Professor) in the History of Art and Architectural Culture. The position will develop cutting‑edge teaching and research on the relationship between architecture, visual culture, and art history.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead research and teaching in the history and theory of art and architectural culture across all periods.
• Provide rigorous visual‑literacy education within the BSc and MSc Architecture programmes and contribute to curriculum development.
• Collaborate with other professorships and the Institute’s four divisions (Archive, Exhibition, Digital, Verlag) to foster interdisciplinary projects.
• Explore connections between architectural visual culture and digital media, science, technology, and the arts.
• Act as a critical interlocutor within the department and across ETH Zurich’s labs and institutes.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in history of art, media, or a closely related field.
• Strong research record demonstrated by publications, (co‑)curated exhibitions, and organization of national or international scholarly events.
• Emerging or established leader with an international network and ability to lead a research team.
• Excellent teaching skills and experience in higher‑education environments.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to fostering diversity and equal opportunity.
