Associate Data Scientist

About the role

The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) seeks an Associate Data Scientist to support its mission of clarifying the fate and whereabouts of missing persons in Syria. Based in Geneva with the possibility of relocation to Damascus or another operational site, the incumbent will report to the Human Rights Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, acquire, and assess diverse data sources for analytical suitability.
• Clean, structure, and standardise data using quality‑assurance methods.
• Apply data‑science techniques to support missing‑persons programmes, including AI‑driven analyses.
• Design and develop analytical products that uncover insights not visible through conventional methods.
• Analyse large data volumes to detect patterns, relationships and actionable findings.
• Produce visualisations, briefings, reports and interactive interfaces to communicate results.
• Guide, train and supervise general service staff in data‑science activities.

Required profile

• Solid understanding of the full data‑analysis lifecycle from ingestion to visualisation.
• Knowledge of statistical and computational methods such as clustering, classification, correlation, dimensionality reduction, forecasting, outlier detection and regression.
• Commitment to data‑driven, evidence‑based decision‑making in a human‑rights context.
• Professional competence, reliability and ability to meet deadlines.
