Backend Engineer – B2B Products

About the role

Proton is looking for a Backend Engineer to join its B2B team, which serves thousands of businesses, non‑profits and government organisations. You will work in a small, empowered team that delivers high‑impact features across Proton’s suite of privacy‑focused products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using PHP and Symfony.
• Model and optimise data in MySQL databases.
• Collaborate with product, account and payments teams to deliver B2B features.
• Lead complex projects from concept to production, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Contribute to the migration of infrastructure to Kubernetes and on‑premise data‑centres.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a backend developer, preferably with PHP.
• Strong knowledge of database design and MySQL.
• Proven ability to lead large, complex engineering projects.
• Bonus for experience with B2B products or infrastructure technologies.
