Data Science Intern - Future Talent Program

About the role

Abbott's Established Pharmaceuticals Business (EPD) in Allschwil, Switzerland, is looking for a Data Science intern for a 6-12 month programme. You will join the central Advanced Analytics team in Basel, which drives the company's move toward a data-driven organisation using machine learning, deep learning, generative AI and computer vision. Reporting to the Senior Manager Data Science Solutions, you will support projects in supply chain and manufacturing optimisation alongside experienced data scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior data scientists to understand business challenges and analytical requirements.
• Support data collection, cleaning, exploratory analysis and interpretation of results.
• Create data visualisations and share findings with project stakeholders.
• Help with machine learning workflows, including feature engineering, model selection and validation.
• Document analytical approaches so they can be shared and reproduced.
• Contribute to advanced analytics projects on supply chain and manufacturing optimisation.
• Keep up with trends in data science, machine learning and AI, and work with business and technical stakeholders to deliver measurable impact.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Statistics or a related field.
• Solid experience applying data science methods to business problems.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and ability to work in international environments.
• Excellent communication skills and fluent English; additional languages are an advantage.

Required skills

• Data mining, statistical modelling, predictive analytics and machine learning.
• Programming in Python or R; Java, C++ or C is an advantage.
• Testing frameworks and analytical libraries.
• Cloud data science environments such as AWS or SageMaker are a plus.
