DevOps Engineer for Large Scale Compute

About the role
Join the team that operates CERN's High‑Throughput Compute systems, supporting the data processing for the High‑Luminosity LHC. This graduate position offers hands‑on experience with large‑scale automation, self‑healing infrastructure, and the evolution of CERN IT services.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a fleet of 400k+ cores throughout their lifecycle, from CI provisioning to AI‑enhanced maintenance.
- Monitor and mitigate emerging security threats, including those enhanced by large language models.
- Suggest, test, and deploy large‑scale configuration changes to production environments.
- Operate and maintain configuration‑management infrastructure such as Foreman, Puppet and OpenVox.
- Develop and maintain Terraform/OpenTofu modules for provisioning and configuration.
- Improve configuration code quality through testing, validation, code review and standardisation.
Required profile
- Experience administering Linux systems in a server or data‑centre environment.
- Experience writing scripts or applications for automation or system tasks.
- Familiarity with configuration‑management tools (e.g., Puppet, Ansible) is a plus.
- Knowledge of container technologies, CI/CD pipelines or Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools is a plus.
- Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as Python or Go.
- Strong command of Git for distributed version control.
- Understanding of batch systems such as HTCondor, SLURM or kueue is advantageous.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) with a willingness to learn French.

- Monthly net stipend of 5,266 CHF or 5,793 CHF depending on degree.
- 30 days paid leave per year plus a two‑week annual closure.
