Digital Pathologist

About the role

Roche is seeking an experienced Digital Pathologist to lead the development, validation, and implementation of computational pathology approaches for translational safety assessment. You will work within the Pathology and Applied Safety Science department to integrate modern image analysis tools into pre‑clinical toxicology studies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy custom image‑analysis algorithms for cell and biomarker quantification on scanned tissue sections.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative histopathologic evaluations for discovery and development toxicology studies, including GLP‑compliant projects.
• Integrate clinical pathology data (haematology, clinical chemistry) with histopathology findings to generate mechanistic toxicity interpretations.
• Develop and maintain Python processing pipelines, automated visualisation tools, and digital pathology dashboards in collaboration with data‑engineering teams.
• Ensure all digital pathology solutions comply with validation and GLP guidelines and contribute to SOP evolution.

Required profile

• Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM or equivalent) with board certification in veterinary pathology (ECVP, ACVP); PhD in pathology or related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in toxicologic pathology and histopathologic evaluation of pre‑clinical studies.
• Strong track record of developing and deploying image‑analysis algorithms, including machine‑learning approaches.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary, matrix‑lead environments.

Required skills

• Python programming for end‑to‑end data pipelines.
• Machine‑learning techniques for image segmentation and classification.
• Image analysis and custom algorithm development for IHC, ISH, and multiplexed slides.
• Knowledge of histotechnique assays, tissue imaging platforms, and GLP compliance.
• Familiarity with digital pathology software ecosystems such as Patholytix, SLIMS, and Arvados.
