Digitization Project Intern

About the role

The Digitization Project Intern will support the ARMU digitization and digital preservation initiatives at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. This six‑month internship offers hands‑on experience with document scanning, OCR processing, and digital file management in an international UN environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare physical records for digitization by sorting, labeling, inventorying and assessing condition.
• Perform scanning, image quality review, completeness checks and quality assurance of digitized records.
• Assist with OCR processing, text verification and metadata validation.
• Organise digital files according to ARMU naming conventions, folder structures and version‑control procedures.
• Identify duplicates, missing documents and metadata inconsistencies.
• Draft background documentation, reports, presentations and take minutes during meetings.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate or final‑year bachelor programme in Information Management, Digital Humanities, IT, Communications or related fields.
• Strong interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its Charter.
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience or familiarity with OCR processing and image quality control.
• Knowledge of digital records management, scanning workflows and file naming conventions.
