Director, Compensation

About the role

The Director, Compensation leads broad‑based compensation programs, including base salary structures and job evaluations, to keep Alcon competitive and equitable. You will partner with external vendors and provide consultative support to business units, evaluating market data and legal requirements to maintain internal equity and external competitiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Lead compensation strategy design and implementation for markets outside the Americas, aligning rewards programs with business priorities and talent needs.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to HR and business leaders on pay decisions, workforce planning, organizational design, market positioning, and talent retention.
• Drive pay equity analyses, remediation strategies, and transparency initiatives, ensuring compliance with gender‑pay and transparency regulations across Europe, Switzerland and Australia.
• Provide strategic insights to global Total Rewards projects based on external market trends, workforce data and emerging legislative developments.
• Lead change‑management and stakeholder‑engagement efforts for compensation programs across diverse international markets.

Required profile

• 12+ years of progressive experience in Compensation or Total Rewards within a global enterprise, including at least 5 years managing professionals.
• Subject‑matter expertise in Mercer International Position Evaluation® or Willis Towers Watson Global Grading System® and in job architecture and pay‑structure design.
• Proven experience working with Works Councils or collective‑agreement bodies and deep knowledge of the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
• Track record of facilitating senior regional/country leadership hires and delivering compensation training for employees and leaders.
• University or Master’s degree in International Business, Economics, Finance, Law or Human Resources with strong data‑analytics focus.
