Director, Protection of Civilians Division

About the role

The Director of the Protection of Civilians (PoC) Division leads CIVIC’s technical, strategic, policy and programmatic work on civilian protection across all country programmes and global initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Global & Field Programs, the role sits on the Senior Management Team and ensures high‑quality technical support from strategy through implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑level technical advice to field programmes, aligning them with evolving PoC standards and emerging protection challenges.
• Lead strategic planning for the PoC Division, identifying new thematic priorities, partnerships and growth areas.
• Directly supervise a team of technical advisors (Gender & Children, MEAL, Community‑Based Protection, Military Engagement, Research, etc.) and foster collaboration and professional development.
• Translate global policy frameworks into practical operational guidance and ensure field lessons inform research, policy development and humanitarian diplomacy.
• Strengthen CIVIC’s global positioning through technical leadership, policy engagement and strategic partnerships.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in protection of civilians, humanitarian programming or related fields.
• Proven senior leadership and management experience, preferably in an international nonprofit setting.
• Strong understanding of international humanitarian law, protection standards and multilateral engagement.
• Ability to travel as required and work in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
