Doctoral Student in Quantum Networking with Superconducting Circuits
ETH Zurich · Zurich
Job description
About the role
The Quantum Device Lab at the Department of Physics of ETH Zurich is looking for highly motivated doctoral students to help develop a superconducting qubit quantum network and research quantum networking applications. The lab's team, led by Andreas Wallraff, has built a two-node network of superconducting qubit chips linked by a cryogenic connection, capable of generating remote entanglement; the project is now expanding through chip fabrication, packaging, networking protocols and distributed control.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and run a two-node quantum network
- Contribute to the experimental effort, both technically (electronics and mechanical design, microwave setups, chip fabrication) and conceptually (experiment design, applications, research strategy)
- Implement quantum networking protocols on a network of multi-qubit superconducting circuit chips
- Work closely with the Quantum Device Lab, a well-established group in superconducting qubit research
Required profile
- Strong interest in experimental realizations of quantum information processing systems, with a focus on remote and non-local applications
- Dedication to a career in research, development or education, in academia or industry
- Experience in one or more of: quantum information processing, experimental quantum optics and atomic physics, micro/nano-electronics fabrication, quantum networking, mesoscopic solid-state physics, low-temperature physics, microwave or digital electronics, FPGAs, instrumentation and software development
What we offer
- A project embedded in the Swiss Quantum Science and Technology network and the Quantum Center at ETH Zurich
- An interdisciplinary research environment with top-level research infrastructure
- Zurich, described as an international city with a high quality of life
- Family-friendly employer with excellent working conditions
Applications are submitted online through the university's application portal, with a CV, publication list, statement of research interests, transcripts and three reference contacts.
