Economic Intern – Statistics Analysis Unit

About the role

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking an Economic Intern to join the Statistics Analysis Unit in Geneva. The six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in statistical compilation, data analysis and research on international trade, services, gender and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with research and analysis on international trade, digital trade, gender and sustainable development.
• Support collection, validation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data for statistical projects.
• Contribute to the preparation of analytical reports, policy briefs, presentations and technical documentation.
• Help develop and implement the Trade in Services Statistics Information System (TiSSTAT), including reviewing technical inputs and capacity‑building materials.
• Organise and coordinate meetings, workshops and webinars, preparing agendas, minutes and background documents.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university programme in economics, political science, international relations, development studies, gender studies or a related field.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, Python, SQL or Power BI.
