Electronics Technician – LHC Quench Detection Upgrade

About the role
Join CERN as an Electronics Technician and play a key part in upgrading the quench detection system that protects the superconducting magnets of the Large Hadron Collider. During the upcoming major shutdown you will work side‑by‑side with engineers, handling the full lifecycle from removal of legacy hardware to building, testing and commissioning next‑generation electronics.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and consolidate quench detection system (QDS) electronics in the LHC tunnel.
- Test and commission QDS equipment on‑site.
- Support operation and maintenance of functional test rigs for QDS electronics.
- Assemble, cable and connectorise electronic crates and circuit boards.
Required profile
- Maximum two years of professional experience after graduation in electronics or a related field.
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Secondary education diploma (no university degree).
- Fluent in English or French, with willingness to learn the other language.
Required skills
- Analog and digital electronics knowledge.
- Experience with electronic crate and circuit‑board assembly.
- Basic testing and measurement using standard laboratory instrumentation.
- Cable assembly, connectorisation and basic EMC practices.
- Basic Python programming (asset).
