Engineering Manager – Europe

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to help shape a new type of engineering team and culture at Ashby. You will lead a growing European engineering group, focusing on ownership, autonomy and hands‑on technical involvement.

Key responsibilities

• Coach engineers on product and technical specs, helping them scope work and improve quality.
• Grow engineers so they can take large, loosely defined projects and deliver with minimal intervention.
• Participate in coding tasks such as debugging customer issues, shipping bug fixes, and improving developer experience.
• Drive initiatives like data generation for demo accounts and automation that reduces manual review of pull requests.

Required profile

• Passionate about both people management and staying technically hands‑on.
• Enjoy solving complex, long‑term problems that impact both the company and individual engineers.
• Comfortable giving difficult feedback and building systems that support high performance.
• Empathetic communicator who can influence change across a diverse engineering team.

Required skills

• Strong software engineering background (experience across infra, backend or frontend is a plus).
• Experience building or improving automation and tooling for engineering workflows.
