Engineering Manager - Perception Team
Hexagon Robotics · Zurich
Job description
About the role
Hexagon Robotics, a division of Hexagon, develops humanoid robots for industrial sectors. It is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead its perception team and the perception stack of its humanoid robot, from cameras and real-time pipelines to the computer vision and ML algorithms that let the robot understand its environment. The manager leads and develops an established team, owns its roadmap and stays technically involved.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the team: coach and mentor engineers, support their career growth, remove blockers and hire as the team grows.
- Own the roadmap and its prioritization, balancing product needs, research bets and technical debt, and align priorities, interfaces and timelines with stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence through design and code reviews, testing and quality practices.
- Guide the technical direction of the stack, from sensor selection and pipeline architecture to computer vision and ML algorithms for object detection, segmentation, tracking, 6D pose estimation and mapping.
- Take cutting-edge research from prototype to production, and own the ML lifecycle: data, training, evaluation, deployment and continuous improvement based on field data.
- Own the reliability and performance of perception as a product, measured against clear quality metrics on real robots.
Required profile
- Proven line management experience (team lead or engineering manager with people responsibility), with the appetite to keep doing both people and technical work.
- Experience working across teams and with stakeholders, keeping delivery on track while giving engineers ownership.
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
Required skills
- Deep, hands-on expertise in computer vision and ML for perception (object detection, segmentation, 6D pose estimation, mapping).
- Track record of bringing computer vision or ML research into reliable production systems.
- Hands-on experience across the ML lifecycle: building datasets, training and evaluating models, deploying and monitoring them.
- Experience with cameras and real-time sensor data pipelines.
- Production experience in C++ on Linux, staying close to the code.
- Nice to have: embedded GPU deployment (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson), vision foundation or vision-language models, and perception for autonomous mobile robotics.
What we offer
- Flexible working hours and a hybrid model.
- 25-30 days of vacation depending on age.
- CHF 500 mobility credit and a bonus system with strong pension contributions.
- Tailored training and development, relocation support, discounts on health, mobility and entertainment, and team events.
- A warm, international culture with a flat hierarchy.
