Environmental Goods Data Expert

About the role

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking a consultant to support the closeout and legacy phase of its Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) Programme. The role focuses on delivering robust, policy‑relevant data products, visualisations, dashboards and knowledge‑management workflows that capture programme results and enable future funding opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Produce data‑driven cases, visualisations, factsheets, presentations, dashboards and donor‑facing evidence packs that synthesize SMEP results and lessons learned.
• Develop and maintain trade‑monitor dashboards for key environmental goods and services sectors such as second‑hand clothing, ocean goods, seaweed products, biostimulants and non‑plastic substitutes.
• Compile, clean, document and analyse trade, tariff, non‑tariff measure and market data, using HS, EBOPS and CPC classifications where relevant.
• Support secure large‑language‑model workflows for high‑volume document analysis and integration of SMEP evidence with UNCTAD statistical databases.
• Contribute to AI‑enabled internal innovation in a secure and responsible manner.

Required profile

• Proven experience in compiling, cleaning and analysing trade and market data for environmental goods and services.
• Familiarity with international classification systems such as HS, EBOPS and CPC.
• Ability to create clear, accessible visualisations and dashboards for diverse stakeholder audiences.
• Experience working on donor‑facing reporting and knowledge‑management products.
