Internship in International Trade & Commodities Division

About the role

The position is an unpaid, full‑time internship (40 hours per week) with the UN Trade and Development Division on International Trade and Commodities (DITC) in Geneva. It runs for six months from 5 October 2026 to 4 April 2027 and can be performed on‑site, remotely or in a hybrid mode.

Key responsibilities

• Research and summarise scientific, technical and policy evidence on circular economy, sustainable materials, chemicals, plastics and waste.
• Compile, clean and analyse quantitative trade and environmental data using Python or R, documenting methods for reproducibility.
• Support analysis of materials of concern in traded products, including regulatory listings, hazards and alternatives.
• Prepare briefing notes, presentations and communication material that translate technical findings for non‑specialist audiences.
• Assist with event preparation, stakeholder coordination and meeting documentation for circular‑economy programmes.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate or final‑year bachelor programme in environmental science, chemistry, materials science, chemical or environmental engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in UN work and commitment to the Charter, with ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python or R for scientific data handling and environmental modelling.
• Competence with Office 365 applications and a modern web browser.
• Basic implementation of IT security best practices on personal computer.
