Ethics Officer

About the role

The Ethics Officer will join the newly created Ethics, Risk, and Compliance Office at the WTO, reporting to the Chief Ethics, Risk and Compliance Officer. This pioneering position will shape the Secretariat’s ethics framework and embed ethical standards across all functions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, review, and updating of ethics‑related policies, including conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality, and outside activities.
• Integrate ethics standards into the broader compliance and risk‑management framework, including the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) system and crisis‑management plans.
• Provide confidential, impartial advice to staff at all levels on complex ethical dilemmas.
• Advise senior management on the ethics‑sensitive design and amendment of WTO policies and procedures.
• Support change‑management initiatives to build credibility and institutional legitimacy for the Ethics Officer function.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in ethics, compliance, and risk management within an international or public‑sector context.
• Strong change‑management capabilities and the ability to work closely with senior leadership.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and impartiality.

• Annual salary of CHF120,948.
• Fixed‑term contract of two years, with the possibility of extension.
