European Patent Attorney

About the role

The European Patent Attorney will join Syngenta Crop Protection's Legal & IP team in Basel, supporting the commercial objectives of the Crop Protection business through IP strategy and transaction support.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, file, prosecute and defend patents and patent applications in crop protection.
• Develop and promote IP strategies aligned with business goals, including global, regional and country plans.
• Provide freedom‑to‑operate advice, prepare formal opinions, and counsel on patent validity and infringement.
• Review IP‑related agreements and manage the IP portfolio.

Required profile

• Qualified European Patent Attorney with up to 2 years post‑qualification experience.
• Degree or equivalent experience in organic chemistry or a closely related field.
• Fluency in English and strong communication, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
• Self‑starter attitude with ability to interact constructively across functions.

• Organic chemistry knowledge.
