French Teacher (Years 9-12)

About the role

The British School of Geneva, founded in 2005 and offering the full English National Curriculum from EYFS to A Levels, is recruiting an experienced French teacher for Years 9-12 (ages 14-19). The French department is a team of four teachers within a wider modern foreign languages department covering primary, secondary and sixth form, offering immersive, communicative French alongside literature and culture. Students in KS5 sit external examinations, and the successful candidate will prepare them fully for them.

Key responsibilities

• Teach French to students aged 14-19, covering a range of prior knowledge from native speakers to beginners
• Prepare students for external examinations in Years 12 and 13
• Carry out scheduled staff duties, act as form tutor and run after-school activities
• Maintain accurate data, records and curricular schemes of learning
• Contribute to departmental and wider staff life and go beyond the mainstream curriculum to enrich the student experience

Required profile

• BA in French Language, Literature and Culture or an internationally recognised equivalent
• PGCE teaching qualification or recognised equivalent
• Ability to teach French at Key Stage 3-5 with Pearson EDEXCEL or equivalent
• Fluency in French at C2 or higher
• 10-year police clearance record (including international child protection certificate or equivalent)
• Two written references and a current Swiss work permit, residency or frontier worker status
