About the role

IATA is seeking a Global Lead Safety & Security Policy to shape and advance the airline industry's worldwide policy positions and advocacy strategy on safety and security. Reporting to the Director of Global Advocacy Strategy, you will work with senior government officials, regulators, international organisations and industry stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Define clear, evidence‑based policy positions on safety regulation, security requirements, oversight regimes and emerging risks.
  • Translate complex regulatory and security developments into operational and strategic implications for airlines.
  • Lead high‑level advocacy with policymakers, regulators and authorities at national, regional and international levels.
  • Develop and lead the global advocacy strategy on aviation safety and security, aligned with international standards.
  • Anticipate and assess emerging regulatory, geopolitical and technological developments.
  • Coordinate lobbying activities, including bilateral meetings, consultation responses and position papers.
  • Collaborate with alliance partners, industry coalitions and internal functions to ensure coherent advocacy.
  • Track policy outcomes, regulatory changes and advocacy effectiveness globally and regionally.

Required profile

  • Minimum 15 years of experience, including at least 10 years in government affairs or public policy, preferably in aviation or a regulatory environment.
  • Strong policy analysis and strategic thinking abilities.
  • At least 5 years of direct interaction with regulators on safety and security matters.
  • Sound knowledge of ICAO frameworks and other relevant regulatory bodies.
