HR Legal Adviser

About the role

The HR Legal Adviser will provide expert legal counsel on international administrative law and personnel matters, supporting the development and application of CERN's internal legal framework, HR policies and procedures. The role contributes to the fair and effective resolution of internal disputes and disciplinary cases.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in working groups reviewing and drafting internal legislation and amendments.
• Advise HR Management and other stakeholders on the Staff Rules, HR policies, and disciplinary procedures.
• Represent CERN before internal dispute resolution and advisory boards.
• Conduct legal research and prepare opinions, memoranda, and official correspondence.

Required profile

• Master's degree or equivalent in law, international public or administrative law, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a legal adviser in an intergovernmental organisation, practising international administrative law.
• Strong teamwork, flexibility, effective communication, self‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and French for professional contexts.

Required skills

• Knowledge of International Administrative Law (law of the International Civil Service).
• Experience drafting official legal documents.
• Familiarity with administrative rules and procedures of international organisations.
• Understanding of Employment Law or Civil Service Law is an asset.
