HR Plant Generalist

About the role

This HR Plant Generalist position covers the human resources needs of a plant, working alongside corporate functions, plant leadership and the Field HR Manager. The role spans compensation, compliance, talent management, employee relations, recruiting and business partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Compensation: implement compensation changes consistently, design local compensation programs with Corporate Compensation, communicate wage increases, handle workers' compensation claims and ensure compliance with employment and HR laws.
• Compliance: keep management informed on compliance topics, run annual harassment and workplace violence training, and act as a point of contact for other compliance training.
• Talent management: work with plant leadership to build coaching skills for performance plans, develop progression and development plans, and advise on counseling, discipline, benefits and restructuring.
• Employee relations and engagement: build relationships with salaried and hourly staff, resolve complaints and conflicts, investigate employee issues, review disciplinary background investigations, and partner with corporate DE&I on training and activities.
• Recruiting: either support recruiting partners in identifying needs and monitoring efforts, or own the full recruiting lifecycle, including evaluating practices, ensuring diversity and inclusion in hiring, onboarding new hires and supporting apprenticeship programs.
• Business partnership: take part in continuous improvement programs, communicate restructuring and layoff guidelines, use metrics and data to drive action plans, and promote self-service tools such as Workday and SIMON (ServiceNow).
• Union locations: maintain relationships with the local union, administer the collective agreement, prepare for rapid response to union threats, take part in negotiations and mediation, and work with Labor Relations on negotiation strategies.
